Cosmetic Dentistry in La Jolla

Cosmetic Dentistry in La Jolla

Most people don't think about their smile until a photo catches them off guard, or a chipped edge starts showing up in every video call. For our La Jolla patients, that moment is usually the beginning of a much bigger conversation — not just about teeth, but about how the whole face looks and feels when they smile. That's the conversation we built our studio around.

Cosmetic dentistry covers the treatments that change how your teeth look: their color, shape, size, alignment, and how evenly they show when you speak and smile. In our practice, that includes porcelain veneers and composite veneers, in-office and take-home teeth whitening, clear aligners, and full smile makeovers planned with Digital Smile Design. For patients missing most or all of their teeth, we also offer All-on-4 and All-on-6 dental implants, along with bone grafting when the jaw needs additional support before implants are placed.

What makes our approach different is that we don't look at teeth in isolation. Dr. Darian Anderson, our cosmetic dentist, works alongside Sarah Garces, NP-C, our aesthetic nurse practitioner and facial balancing specialist, with Dr. Monica Kieu, D.O., FACS serving as our medical director. Muse exists because we kept seeing the same pattern: veneers from one office, neurotoxins from another, fillers from a third, and nobody looking at how the pieces fit together. Here, cosmetic dentistry and medical aesthetics share one roof and one coordinated plan, so lips, skin, and smile are designed with each other in mind rather than separately.

There's no single profile for a cosmetic dentistry patient. Some La Jolla patients come to us with one specific concern — a discolored front tooth, a chip, a gap that has bothered them for years. Others want a comprehensive change and aren't sure where to start. Both are good reasons to sit down with us.

Generally, good candidates have healthy teeth and gums, or are willing to address any underlying issues first. If a tooth needs attention before it can be restored cosmetically, we'll tell you plainly. We'd rather build on a stable foundation than rush toward a result that won't hold up. Candidacy also depends on your goals and your timeline — clear aligners take months and move your natural teeth, while veneers reshape teeth more quickly. Whitening may be all some patients need.

Here's what cosmetic treatment commonly helps with:

  • Teeth that have yellowed or stained over time from coffee, tea, wine, or age
  • Chips, cracks, worn edges, and small irregularities in tooth shape
  • Gaps, crowding, or mild to moderate alignment concerns
  • Teeth that look short or uneven when you smile
  • Extensive tooth loss, where implant-supported options can restore a full arch
  • A smile that feels out of balance with the rest of the face

How the Process Works at Our Studio

It starts with a complimentary consultation. We listen first — what bothers you, what you like about your smile already, what you want photographs to look like. We examine your teeth and gums and look at how your smile relates to your lips, midline, and facial proportions.

From there, we use Digital Smile Design to plan and preview treatment. Rather than asking you to imagine the outcome, we design it visually so you can react, ask questions, and adjust before anything is permanent. For a veneer case, that means agreeing on shape, length, and shade in advance. For aligners, it means mapping out tooth movement in stages. If facial aesthetics are part of your goals, Sarah and Dr. Anderson coordinate that planning together so treatments complement rather than compete.

Treatment then unfolds in appointments spaced to fit your schedule. Whitening can often be completed quickly, in office or with custom take-home trays. Veneers involve preparation, temporaries, and final placement. Implant cases are staged over a longer period, sometimes with bone grafting first. We'll walk you through the sequence and timing before you commit to anything.

Aftercare, Payment, and Getting Started

Aftercare is straightforward but matters. Brushing, flossing, and regular cleanings protect cosmetic work the same way they protect natural teeth. We'll talk with you about foods and habits that can stain or stress restorations, about nightguards if you grind, and about touch-up whitening for patients maintaining a brighter shade. We want your results to last, and we'll tell you exactly what that requires.

We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice and do not bill insurance. We welcome self-pay patients and offer financing through Cherry, so treatment can be spread over time. You'll receive clear cost information before treatment begins — no surprises.

If you're in La Jolla and have been thinking about your smile, the consultation costs you nothing but time. We'd be glad to meet you.
