All-on-X Dental Implants in La Jolla

All-on-X Dental Implants in La Jolla

Failing or missing teeth rarely announce themselves all at once. For most of the La Jolla patients we see, it's a slow accumulation — a molar lost years ago, a bridge that keeps loosening, a denture that clicks during dinner, or advanced gum disease that has left several teeth with no reliable foundation. All-on-X dental implants address that whole picture at once, replacing a full arch of teeth with a fixed set of prosthetic teeth anchored to a small number of implants placed directly into the jawbone.

The "X" in All-on-X simply stands for the number of implants used to support one full arch. In our studio, that usually means All-on-4 or All-on-6. With All-on-4, four implants are positioned in the arch, often angled to take advantage of areas where bone is densest. With All-on-6, six implants distribute the load across more points of contact. In both cases, the replacement teeth are secured to those implants rather than resting on the gums, so they don't need adhesive and don't come out at night.

Which number is right depends on your anatomy and your goals, not on a formula. All-on-4 often suits patients who have experienced bone loss and want to avoid extensive grafting, or who want a more streamlined surgical visit. All-on-6 is frequently considered when bone volume allows for it, when an arch is longer, or when someone has a heavy bite and we want additional support spread across the arch. We also offer bone grafting when the existing bone needs to be rebuilt before implants can be placed. During your consultation, we'll walk you through both options side by side, including how each affects the shape and length of the final prosthetic teeth.

Because Dr. Darian Anderson practices cosmetic dentistry alongside Sarah Garces, NP-C, our planning conversations don't stop at the teeth. A full-arch restoration changes how your lips rest, how much tooth shows when you speak, and how your lower face is supported. That's the same principle Digital Smile Design brings to veneers and smile makeovers, and it applies just as directly here. We'd rather plan the smile against your whole face from the beginning than adjust it afterward.

For La Jolla patients, that coordination has a practical benefit: cosmetic dentistry and medical aesthetics live under one roof, so you're not driving between offices or explaining your plan twice. Full-arch treatment involves multiple appointments over several months, and keeping them in one familiar place makes the process considerably easier to manage.

Who Is a Candidate, and What the Process Looks Like

All-on-X is generally considered when an entire upper or lower arch is failing or already gone. That includes patients wearing full dentures who are tired of the movement and dietary limits, patients facing extraction of remaining teeth due to periodontal disease or extensive decay, and patients who have been replacing individual teeth one at a time and want a more definitive answer.

The process begins with a complimentary consultation, where we examine your mouth, review imaging, and discuss whether All-on-4, All-on-6, or another path fits. From there, treatment generally follows this sequence:

  • Diagnostic records and digital planning of implant positions and tooth design
  • Any necessary extractions and bone grafting, when indicated
  • Surgical placement of the implants
  • Placement of a provisional set of fixed teeth while healing occurs
  • A healing period during which the implants integrate with the bone
  • Fabrication and delivery of your final prosthesis, refined for fit, bite, and appearance

Timelines vary from person to person. We'll give you a realistic schedule for your case rather than a generic one, and we'll tell you honestly if we think another treatment serves you better.

Aftercare and Living With Your New Arch

Healing after implant surgery calls for a soft-food period, careful hygiene around the surgical sites, and follow-up visits so we can monitor integration. We'll review exactly what to eat, how to clean, and what's normal versus what warrants a call.

Long term, All-on-X teeth need daily cleaning under and around the prosthesis, along with regular professional visits. We'll show you the tools that work best for your specific design. Implants don't decay, but the gum and bone supporting them still require attention — consistent maintenance is what protects the investment.

Payment and Financing for La Jolla Patients

We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice and do not bill insurance. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we quote treatment clearly so you know the full scope before committing.

For patients who prefer to spread payments over time, we offer financing through Cherry. Bring your questions about cost to your complimentary consultation — we'd rather have that conversation openly at the start than leave it unanswered.
