Digital Smile Design in San Diego

Choosing to change your smile is a big decision, and most people want to know what the result will look like before anything permanent happens. That's the practical value of Digital Smile Design: instead of describing a plan in words or asking you to trust a before-and-after photo of someone else's teeth, we build your smile digitally first, show it to you, and refine it together. For our San Diego patients, that means walking into treatment with a clear picture of where we're headed — and having a real say in how it turns out.
Digital Smile Design is a planning process. We use photography, video, and digital imaging of your teeth, your face, and the way you speak and smile to design your new smile on screen before we begin any treatment. Teeth are measured and proportioned in relation to your lips, your midline, your gum line, and the overall shape and movement of your face — not evaluated in isolation on a model.
That facial context is the whole point, and it's the reason we built our studio the way we did. Cosmetic dentistry and medical aesthetics work side by side here, with Dr. Darian Anderson leading the dental side and Sarah Garces, NP-C, focused on facial balancing. When one plan accounts for both, you're not getting veneers in one office and facial treatments somewhere else with no one looking at how the pieces fit together. Digital Smile Design is where that coordinated thinking starts.
The clearest benefit is that you see a proposed design before committing. Preferences that are hard to put into words — whether you want teeth that look natural and slightly imperfect or crisp and uniform, how much tooth you want showing when you smile — become something you can point at and discuss.
- Visualize your proposed smile before treatment begins, rather than after
- Give specific feedback and request changes while everything is still on screen
- Plan in proportion to your face, lips, and gum line instead of teeth alone
- Coordinate cosmetic dentistry with facial aesthetics under one plan when that's appropriate for you
- Understand the scope of treatment — how many teeth, which procedures — before you decide
- Reduce guesswork and surprises once treatment is underway
There's also a communication benefit. A shared visual reference keeps everyone aligned as treatment progresses, which matters most on larger cases involving multiple teeth or more than one type of treatment.
Who It's For in San Diego
San Diego patients come to us with very different starting points. Some have teeth that are healthy but worn, chipped, or discolored, and want porcelain veneers or composite veneers designed with intention rather than picked from a shade guide. Others have crowding or spacing and are considering clear aligners, and want to understand what the finished alignment will actually look like on their face. Some are planning a full smile makeover that combines whitening, alignment, and veneers in a sequence.
We also design for patients rebuilding more extensively — those exploring All-on-4 or All-on-6 dental implants, sometimes with bone grafting as part of the plan. In those cases the design work is especially valuable, because tooth position, proportion, and smile line all need to be decided deliberately rather than left to chance. And for patients who are also interested in neurotoxins, dermal fillers, or microneedling, we can plan the dental and facial elements together from the beginning.
Good candidates are generally people who want a meaningful cosmetic change and want to be involved in the decisions. If you're unsure whether this applies to you, that's a reasonable thing to find out — we offer a complimentary consultation, so the conversation itself doesn't require a commitment.
The Process, Aftercare, and What Comes Next
We start with your complimentary consultation. We talk through what you don't like about your current smile and what you're hoping for, then capture the photos, video, and digital records we need. From there we build the design and present it to you, walking through the proposed shape, proportion, and positioning of your teeth and how it all sits within your face.
You review it, react to it, and we adjust. Once the design is settled, it becomes the reference point for the actual treatment — whichever combination of aligners, veneers, whitening, or implant work your plan calls for. Aftercare depends on what you have done, and we'll give you specific instructions for your treatment, along with follow-up visits to confirm everything is settling as designed. Long term, cosmetic work lasts best with consistent home care and regular visits.
Payment and Financing
We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service studio and do not take insurance. We work with self-pay and cash patients, and we're direct about costs so you can make a clear decision.
For patients who prefer to spread payments out, we offer financing through Cherry. We'll review the full scope and investment for your plan during your consultation, before you commit to anything — San Diego patients are welcome to come in, see their design, and decide from there.
