Dermal Fillers in San Diego

A hollow under the eyes that makeup can't quite cover. Cheeks that used to look fuller in photos. Lips that have thinned gradually enough that you only notice it looking back at older pictures. These are the concerns San Diego patients bring to us most often, and they share a common cause: the face loses volume over time as fat pads shift, bone changes, and collagen production slows. Dermal fillers address that loss directly by replacing structure where it has faded.
Dermal fillers are injectable gels placed beneath the skin to restore volume, refine contour, and soften the folds that form when facial support diminishes. Rather than freezing muscle movement the way neurotoxins do, fillers work as a scaffold — they add back what time subtracted. Depending on the area being treated, that might mean subtle lift along the cheekbone, definition along the jawline, smoothing of the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth, or gentle enhancement of the lips.
We think about fillers differently than a menu-driven injectable clinic does. Sarah Garces, NP-C, is our aesthetic nurse practitioner and facial balancing specialist, and her approach is built on restraint and proportion rather than volume for its own sake. The whole reason our studio exists is that patients were getting veneers in one office, neurotoxin in another, and fillers in a third, with no one considering how the pieces related. Here, facial aesthetics and cosmetic dentistry sit under one roof, so if you're also considering a smile makeover with Dr. Darian Anderson, the plan accounts for both. Our medical director, Monica Kieu, D.O., FACS, oversees the aesthetic side of our care.
Good candidates are generally healthy adults who notice volume loss, flattening, or asymmetry and want a change that looks like a rested version of themselves. San Diego patients come to us at many different stages — someone in their late twenties wanting more definition, someone in their forties noticing hollowing, someone in their sixties who wants softening without looking overfilled. Fillers also help patients whose smile work is already beautiful but whose surrounding facial features haven't been considered alongside it.
The best way to find out whether fillers suit your goals is a complimentary consultation. We'll look at your face as a whole, in motion and at rest, discuss what's actually bothering you, and be honest if something other than filler — or nothing at all — would serve you better. You'll leave understanding which areas we'd treat, in what order, and why.
What the Treatment Is Like
Appointments are straightforward. After we review your goals and map the treatment areas, we cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing agent for comfort. Many fillers also contain lidocaine. Product is then placed in small, deliberate increments using a needle or cannula, and we check your face repeatedly throughout — sitting upright, animated, from multiple angles — rather than injecting to a predetermined amount.
Here's what most patients can expect:
- A visit that fits comfortably into a workday, with no general anesthesia
- Immediate visible change, with final results settling as any swelling resolves
- Some swelling, tenderness, redness, or bruising at injection points
- Guidance to avoid strenuous exercise, heat, and alcohol briefly afterward
- A follow-up conversation so we can assess results and refine if needed
Aftercare is simple. Keep the area clean, avoid pressing or massaging unless we tell you otherwise, sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night, and use a cold compress if you're swollen. Given how much time San Diego life happens outdoors, sun protection matters — we'll review skincare that supports your results. Fillers are temporary, so most patients return periodically to maintain what they've built.
Cost, Financing, and Getting Started
We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service studio and don't bill insurance, which is standard for elective aesthetic treatment. That structure also lets us spend real time on planning rather than working around coverage rules. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and pricing depends entirely on which areas you're treating and how much product your plan calls for — something we quote clearly at your consultation, before you commit to anything.
For patients who'd rather spread the cost out, we offer financing through Cherry, which can make a multi-area plan or a combined dentistry-and-aesthetics treatment sequence more manageable over time.
Along with San Diego, we care for patients from Del Mar, Encinitas, La Jolla, and Solana Beach. If you've been considering fillers and want an honest assessment from providers who look at your entire face, we'd be glad to meet you.
