All-on-X Dental Implants in Solana Beach

All-on-X Dental Implants in Solana Beach

A failing bridge, a row of loose lower teeth, years of struggling with a denture that shifts during dinner — these are the situations that bring Solana Beach patients to us asking about full-arch implants. All-on-X is the umbrella term for replacing an entire upper or lower arch of teeth with a fixed bridge anchored to a small number of dental implants. Instead of restoring teeth one at a time, we rebuild the whole arch as a single, planned unit — and because we design smiles alongside facial aesthetics in the same studio, we're looking at how that new arch supports your lips, cheeks, and overall facial balance, not just your bite.

All-on-4 uses four implants per arch, angled to take advantage of the densest available bone. It's often the right choice when bone volume is limited, when you want to keep the number of surgical sites down, or when you're transitioning from a full denture and want something fixed in place. All-on-6 adds two more implants, spreading the load of the bridge across a wider foundation. We tend to favor six when there's enough bone to support them, when a patient has a strong bite or history of grinding, or when we want extra redundancy across a longer span.

The everyday experience of the two is very similar: teeth that stay put, that you brush rather than soak, and that don't rely on suction or adhesive. The difference is structural. During your consultation we review 3D imaging of your jaw, look at your existing teeth and gum health, and talk through what your bone can realistically support. Sometimes the answer is All-on-4 on the upper and All-on-6 on the lower, or the reverse. We'd rather make that call from your anatomy than from a package name.

Good candidates are people missing most or all of the teeth in an arch, people whose remaining teeth are failing from decay or advanced gum disease, and long-time denture wearers who are tired of the limitations. If you've been avoiding certain foods, covering your mouth when you laugh, or replacing the same crown for the third time, full-arch treatment is worth a conversation.

Bone is the main variable. Years of missing teeth allow the ridge to resorb, which is why we offer bone grafting when the foundation needs building up before or alongside implant placement. Active gum disease needs to be addressed first, and we'll talk honestly about smoking and conditions that affect healing. Because our office covers periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, and radiology, the surgical and restorative sides of your case are planned together rather than handed off.

What the Process Looks Like

We start with a complimentary consultation — imaging, a full look at your mouth and face, and a clear explanation of your options with no obligation. From there we build a digital plan, using Digital Smile Design to preview tooth shape, length, and position before anything is placed. You'll know what you're working toward.

  • Consultation and 3D imaging, with a written treatment plan
  • Digital smile design to preview your new teeth
  • Any needed extractions, grafting, or gum treatment
  • Implant placement and a provisional bridge
  • A healing period while implants integrate with bone
  • Delivery of your final, custom-crafted bridge

Surgery day typically includes removing any remaining non-restorable teeth, placing the implants, and fitting a provisional bridge so you leave with teeth. Healing takes several months while the implants fuse to the bone. We see you through that stretch with follow-up visits, then design and deliver the final restoration.

Aftercare and Living With Your New Arch

The first week or two calls for soft foods, prescribed rinses, and rest. Swelling and tenderness are normal and manageable. As you heal, you'll gradually return to a full diet — and most patients find chewing dramatically easier than what they'd adapted to before.

Long term, care is straightforward but not optional. You'll brush the bridge, clean underneath it with the tools we provide, and come in for regular professional maintenance so we can check the implants, the bridge, and your gum health. Solana Beach patients often pair these visits with other treatment in our studio, which keeps appointments efficient.

Cost, Payment, and Getting Started

We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice and don't bill insurance. That means your plan is built around what your case actually needs. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we offer financing through Cherry so full-arch treatment can be paid over time.

Your consultation is free, and you'll leave with real numbers and a real timeline. If you're in Solana Beach and weighing All-on-4 against All-on-6 — or simply wondering whether you're a candidate — reach out and let's look at it together.
