Dentistry and medical aesthetics happen under one roof, planned together rather than in pieces.

A chipped front tooth from a childhood accident, a permanent stain that whitening strips never touched, a smile that's slowly crowded and shifted since your twenties — these are the details people notice in photos, on video calls, and in the mirror every morning. Cosmetic dentistry addresses exactly those things: the shape, color, alignment, proportion, and overall harmony of your teeth and how they frame your face. In our studio in coastal San Diego County, we approach that work as design, not decoration, planning each smile in relation to your lips, jawline, and facial features rather than in isolation.

Cosmetic dentistry covers a range of treatments that improve the appearance of your teeth and smile, and the right combination depends entirely on what's bothering you. Someone with healthy, well-aligned teeth that have simply dulled over the years may need nothing more than teeth whitening, which we offer both as an in-office treatment and as a take-home system. Someone with worn edges, small gaps, or teeth that have never quite matched in shape may be better served by veneers, available in both porcelain and composite, which resurface the visible front of the tooth and let us control color, length, and contour precisely.

For crowding, spacing, or bite issues that no amount of surface work would fix, clear aligners move teeth into better position first, so that any cosmetic work that follows is built on a sound foundation. Patients missing most or all of their teeth in an arch have a different set of options entirely, including All-on-4 and All-on-6 dental implants, sometimes preceded by bone grafting to rebuild the support those implants need. And when several concerns overlap, a full smile makeover guided by Digital Smile Design lets us map the plan visually before anything is started.

Good candidates for cosmetic treatment generally have healthy gums and teeth that are structurally sound, or a plan in place to get there first. Cosmetic work looks best and lasts longest on a stable foundation, which is why we start with a thorough look at your overall oral health rather than jumping straight to the aesthetic layer. If underlying issues need attention, we'll tell you plainly, and our office brings together general dentistry alongside endodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, and prosthodontics so that groundwork doesn't have to be scattered across multiple offices.

It also helps to know what each option asks of you. Porcelain veneers involve preparing the tooth surface and are a long-term commitment; composite veneers are a more conservative approach with different tradeoffs in durability and finish. Whitening produces noticeable change without altering tooth structure, but it doesn't lighten existing dental work. Aligner treatment takes time and consistent wear. During your complimentary consultation, we walk through these distinctions honestly so you can weigh them for yourself. Things worth considering before you commit:

  • The condition of your gums, enamel, and any existing fillings or crowns
  • Whether your teeth need to be moved before they're reshaped or resurfaced
  • How much of your smile shows when you speak and smile naturally
  • Whether facial aesthetics — the lips and lower face that frame your teeth — are part of the picture you want addressed
  • Your timeline, especially if you're working toward a wedding, reunion, or other date

How Facial Balancing Fits Into Smile Design

Muse exists because of a specific frustration: patients were getting veneers at one office, neurotoxins at another, and fillers somewhere else, with no one looking at how the pieces worked together. Darian Anderson, DDS, handles the cosmetic dentistry side, while Sarah Garces, NP-C, our aesthetic nurse practitioner and facial balancing specialist, addresses the surrounding features with neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and microneedling. Monica Kieu, D.O., FACS, serves as our medical director.

Having both specialties under one roof means your smile design and your facial aesthetics can be planned in concert from the beginning. Sometimes that changes very little. Sometimes it changes everything about how a result reads on your face. Either way, the conversation happens before treatment starts, not after.

Aftercare, Longevity, and Paying for Treatment

Caring for cosmetic work is mostly a continuation of good habits: consistent brushing and flossing, regular checkups, and protecting your teeth from grinding if that's a concern for you. Whitening results respond to diet and are refreshable, which is part of why many patients keep a take-home system on hand. Veneers and implant-supported restorations are maintained much like natural teeth, with professional cleanings and attention to the gum tissue around them.

We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice and do not bill insurance, which lets us plan treatment around what your smile actually needs. We welcome self-pay patients and offer financing through Cherry so cost can be spread over time.

If you're in Del Mar, Encinitas, La Jolla, Solana Beach, or anywhere in San Diego and you've been quietly thinking about your smile, we'd genuinely like to hear about it. Reach out to schedule your complimentary consultation.
