Dermal Fillers in Del Mar

Faces change in ways that are hard to name. The mirror looks a little tired even after a full night's sleep, lipstick settles into fine lines, or a cheek that used to catch the light now sits flatter than it used to. Dermal fillers are one of the most direct ways to address those changes — and when we plan them alongside your smile, the results tend to look less like "work" and more like you, rested.
Dermal fillers are injectable gels placed beneath the skin to restore volume, refine contour, and soften lines. Where neurotoxins relax the muscles that create expression lines, fillers add structure back where the face has lost it. That distinction matters, because the two are often confused. A crease that deepens when you smile and a hollow that stays put whether you're smiling or not call for different tools, and part of our job is telling you which one you're actually dealing with.
For our Del Mar patients, the most common areas of interest are the midface, the lips, the lower face, and the areas around the mouth and jawline. Sarah Garces, NP-C, our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Facial Balancing Specialist, approaches this work with restraint as the guiding principle. Facial balancing means looking at proportion across the whole face rather than chasing one feature at a time — and it's the reason we don't simply fill wherever a line happens to be.
Most people who come to us fall into one of a few situations. Some are in their thirties and noticing early volume loss, particularly under the eyes or in the cheeks. Others are further along and dealing with folds around the nose and mouth or a jawline that has softened. A third group isn't concerned with aging at all — they want fuller lips or more definition in a feature they've always wanted addressed.
There's also a group unique to a practice like ours. Patients considering porcelain veneers, a smile makeover, or Digital Smile Design often discover that the frame around the smile matters as much as the teeth themselves. Lip support, midface volume, and tooth position all influence each other. Because Dr. Darian Anderson and Sarah work in the same studio, we can plan those pieces together instead of sending you across town and hoping the results agree.
You may be a good candidate for fillers if:
- You're bothered by volume loss, flattening, or hollowing rather than movement-related lines
- You want subtle enhancement to lips, cheeks, or jawline definition
- You're planning cosmetic dental work and want your facial aesthetics considered in the same plan
- You prefer a non-surgical option with little downtime
- You're in good general health and have realistic, clearly defined goals
What the Appointment Actually Involves
Everything begins with a complimentary consultation. We look at your face at rest and in motion, listen to what's bothering you, and talk honestly about what fillers can and can't do. Sometimes the recommendation is fewer syringes than a patient expected, or a different area entirely. Sometimes it's a conversation about whether neurotoxins, microneedling, or dental work would serve the goal better. That honesty is the whole point of how Muse was built.
On treatment day, we cleanse the area and use a topical numbing agent for comfort. Product is placed with a needle or cannula depending on the area, in small increments, with frequent checks in the mirror as we go. Most appointments are brief enough to fit into a workday, which matters to Del Mar patients who don't want to reorganize their week around an aesthetic appointment. You'll see an immediate change, though initial swelling means the true result takes a little time to settle.
Aftercare and the Days Following
Expect some swelling, tenderness, or small bruises at injection points — this is normal and typically short-lived. We generally advise avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat, and unnecessary pressure on the treated area for the first day or two, and we'll give you specific guidance based on what was treated. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated the first night helps.
We'll want to hear how things are settling. If something feels uneven as swelling resolves, tell us — that conversation is part of the treatment, not an imposition. Results are not permanent, and many patients return periodically to maintain what they like.
Payment, Financing, and Getting Started
We are an out-of-network, fee-for-service studio and do not bill insurance. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and pricing is discussed clearly before anything is scheduled — no surprises at checkout.
For patients who'd rather spread the cost out, we offer financing through Cherry. If you're in Del Mar and curious whether fillers are right for you, the consultation is free, and there's no obligation attached to it.
