Microneedling in San Diego

Skin texture is one of those things you notice in ordinary moments — in a car mirror, in a photo someone else took, under the bright lights of a bathroom. Fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scarring, and uneven tone don't respond much to skincare alone, because the changes that matter happen below the surface. Microneedling works at that level, and it's one of the treatments we perform most often for San Diego patients who want visible improvement without stepping into anything dramatic.
Microneedling is a treatment that uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. Those tiny injuries are superficial and intentional: they prompt your body's natural repair response, which includes producing new collagen and elastin. Over the following weeks, that rebuilt support structure is what softens texture, refines pores, and gives skin a smoother, more even look.
Because the results come from your own tissue response rather than from a product sitting on top of the skin, microneedling tends to look natural as it develops. That fits how we practice. Our studio was built around restraint and facial artistry — the idea that treatment should look like you, only rested and more even. Sarah Garces, NP-C, our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Facial Balancing Specialist, plans microneedling with your whole face in mind, not as an isolated fix for one patch of skin.
Most healthy adults who want to improve skin quality are reasonable candidates. We commonly recommend microneedling for concerns such as:
- Fine lines and early signs of aging
- Acne scarring and uneven skin texture
- Enlarged or visible pores
- Dull or uneven tone
- Skin that looks tired despite a consistent skincare routine
Candidacy is best confirmed in person. Active breakouts, certain skin conditions, recent sun exposure, or specific medications can affect timing, and we would rather reschedule than treat skin that isn't ready. That's part of why we offer a complimentary consultation — it gives us time to look at your skin, hear what bothers you, and be honest about whether microneedling is the right tool or whether something else in our range, such as neurotoxins or dermal fillers, would serve you better.
Microneedling also pairs naturally with cosmetic dentistry. Some of our San Diego patients come in planning veneers, clear aligners, or a full smile makeover with Dr. Darian Anderson, DDS, and realize they want their skin to match the effort going into their smile. Because both specialties live under one roof here, we can sequence those plans together instead of leaving you to coordinate between separate offices.
What the Appointment Is Like
We start by cleansing the skin and applying a topical numbing agent, which needs time to take effect. Once you're comfortable, we pass the microneedling device over the treatment areas in a methodical pattern, adjusting depth based on the region of the face and the concern we're addressing. Skin over the cheeks, for example, is treated differently than the more delicate area near the eyes.
The treatment itself is relatively quick. Most people describe the sensation as a light vibration with some pressure, and more noticeable feeling in bonier areas like the forehead and jawline. Afterward, expect redness that looks similar to a mild sunburn, sometimes with slight warmth or tightness. That usually calms within a day or two, though it varies from person to person.
Microneedling is typically done as a series rather than a single visit, spaced out to give collagen time to build between sessions. We'll recommend a schedule based on your concerns and how your skin responds, and we'll adjust rather than push you through a fixed package.
Aftercare and Protecting Your Results
For the first day or so, keep the skin clean and simple — no harsh actives, no scrubbing, no makeup until we clear it. Skip workouts, saunas, and anything that makes you sweat heavily right away, since heat and friction can irritate freshly treated skin.
Sun protection matters more than anything else, and that's especially true here. San Diego's climate encourages year-round time outdoors, and treated skin is temporarily more sensitive to UV exposure. Daily sunscreen, shade, and a hat in the weeks after treatment protect the collagen you just invested in. We'll give you specific instructions before you leave and you're always welcome to call with questions between visits.
Payment and Financing for San Diego Patients
We are an out-of-network, fee-for-service studio and do not take insurance. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we quote your microneedling plan clearly at consultation so there are no surprises at checkout.
For patients who prefer to spread the cost over time, we offer financing through Cherry. If you're combining microneedling with other aesthetic or cosmetic dental treatment, we'll walk through the full plan and your payment options together, so you can decide what to do now and what to space out. Along with San Diego, we care for patients from Del Mar, Encinitas, La Jolla, and Solana Beach.
