Clear Aligners in Solana Beach

Straightening teeth no longer means committing to metal brackets for two years. Clear aligners use a series of custom-made, removable trays that shift teeth gradually into better position, and for many of our Solana Beach patients they solve two problems at once: crowding or spacing that has bothered them for years, and the practical need to keep working, presenting, and socializing without a mouthful of hardware. Because we plan smiles alongside facial aesthetics under one roof, aligner treatment here is rarely just about moving teeth — it's about where those teeth land in relation to your lips, your smile line, and your face.
Each aligner is made to fit your teeth at a specific point in the sequence. You wear one tray for a set period, then move to the next, and each tray applies gentle, controlled pressure to move teeth a small amount. Over the full series, those small movements add up to a meaningfully different smile. The trays are removable, so you take them out to eat and to brush and floss normally — a real advantage over fixed appliances, where cleaning around brackets and wires takes extra effort.
Clear aligners address a wide range of concerns: teeth that overlap, gaps that have opened up over time, teeth that have drifted after years without a retainer, and bite relationships that make certain teeth wear unevenly. They also serve as groundwork for cosmetic work. If you're considering porcelain veneers or a broader smile makeover, moving teeth into better alignment first often means more conservative restorations later, because we're not relying on porcelain to disguise position problems. That sequencing conversation is one we have often with Solana Beach patients who came in asking only about veneers.
Most adults and older teens with reasonably healthy teeth and gums are candidates. The honest answer, though, is that candidacy depends on the specifics — how much movement is needed, whether the bite is involved, whether existing restorations or missing teeth complicate the plan. Some cases are straightforward; others benefit from being combined with other treatment or approached differently. We'd rather tell you that at the outset than partway through.
That's what the complimentary consultation is for. We look at your teeth and bite, listen to what actually bothers you, and talk through whether aligners are the right tool. We use Digital Smile Design to plan cosmetic outcomes, which means you can see where treatment is headed before committing. Because we're a fee-for-service practice and don't work through insurance networks, that conversation isn't shaped by coverage rules — it's shaped by what we think will serve you.
What Treatment Looks Like, Step by Step
After the consultation and records, your aligner series is fabricated to your plan. We fit the first trays, review wear time, and show you how to seat and remove them cleanly. Some cases call for small tooth-colored attachments bonded to certain teeth to help the aligners grip and produce specific movements; if yours does, we'll explain why before we place them.
From there, the rhythm is simple and largely in your hands:
- Wear your aligners consistently, removing them to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth
- Advance to the next tray on the schedule we give you
- Rinse trays and brush them gently so they stay clear and odor-free
- Keep your check-in appointments so we can confirm teeth are tracking as planned
- Tell us right away if a tray doesn't seat fully or feels wrong
Progress visits are usually brief. We confirm fit, check tracking, and hand off your next set of trays. For Solana Beach patients balancing work and family schedules, that predictability matters — appointments are short and spaced out, and much of the work happens while you go about your day.
Retention and Keeping Your Results
Teeth have memory. Once active treatment finishes, retainers hold the new positions while bone and soft tissue settle, and long-term nightly wear is what prevents relapse. We'll go over your retention plan before you finish so it isn't an afterthought.
Finishing aligner treatment is also a natural moment to consider whitening, in-office or take-home, since teeth are newly aligned and easy to treat evenly. Some patients stop there. Others move on to veneers or a coordinated plan that includes facial aesthetics with our nurse practitioner — the reason we built one studio instead of two.
Paying for Treatment
We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service office and don't bill insurance. We accept self-pay and cash patients, and we offer financing through Cherry so treatment can be spread over monthly payments rather than paid all at once.
We'll give you clear numbers at your consultation — total investment, what's included, and financing options — before you decide anything. Solana Beach patients are welcome to book a complimentary consultation and start there.
