Why choose us

Benefits of Teeth Whitening

Two Ways To Whiten

We offer in-office whitening for fast results and take-home trays for gradual brightening on your own schedule.

Fast In-Office Results

In-office whitening suits you when you want a noticeable change before a wedding, photos, or an event.

Flexible Take-Home Option

Custom take-home trays work well if you prefer to whiten at your own pace and touch up later.

Planned With Your Face

Our dentist and aesthetic nurse practitioner look at your whole smile and face, so whitening fits a bigger plan when you want one.

Free Consultation, Flexible Payment

Your consultation is complimentary, and we accept self-pay with financing available through Cherry.

Coffee, red wine, black tea, and time all leave their mark on enamel. Most stained teeth aren't a sign of poor hygiene — they're the ordinary result of years of pigment settling into the outer layer of the tooth, along with the natural yellowing of dentin underneath as enamel thins with age. Professional whitening lifts that discoloration with a controlled peroxide gel at a strength you can't buy over the counter, applied under supervision so the shade change is even and the gums stay protected.

We offer two approaches, and many patients use them together. In-office whitening happens here in a single visit. Your lips and gums are isolated, a professional-strength gel is applied to the front teeth, and the gel is refreshed in timed cycles. This is the right choice when you have a date on the calendar — a wedding, a reunion, headshots, a first week at a new job — or when you simply want results without managing a routine at home. You leave the appointment with the change already visible.

Take-home whitening works more gradually using custom trays made from impressions or a digital scan of your teeth. Because the trays are built to your arch, the gel stays where it belongs instead of pooling on the gums, which is the main reason drugstore strips and one-size boilerplate trays give patchy results. You wear them for a set period each day over a stretch of days. This option suits people who prefer to control the pace, who have sensitive teeth and want lower-concentration gel over a longer window, or who want to keep trays on hand to touch up a year or two down the road.

Comparing the two honestly: in-office is faster and fully supervised; take-home is more flexible and easier to repeat. Patients preparing for a larger cosmetic plan often start in-office to establish the shade quickly, then maintain it at home.

Whitening works on natural tooth structure, and it does not change the color of existing dental work. Crowns, bonding, composite fillings, and veneers keep whatever shade they were made in. If you have restorations on your front teeth, we'll talk about sequencing — usually whitening first, then matching any new restorative or veneer work to the brightened shade rather than the other way around. That conversation matters most for patients considering a smile makeover, porcelain veneers, or composite veneers, where the final color is planned deliberately.

Some discoloration responds better than others. Yellow-toned staining from food, drink, and age typically lightens well. Gray tones, tetracycline banding, a single dark tooth from past trauma, or white spots from fluorosis behave differently, and in those cases we'll tell you plainly what whitening can and can't accomplish and what alternatives exist. We also want any active decay or gum inflammation addressed before bleaching, since peroxide on an untreated cavity or irritated tissue is uncomfortable and counterproductive. Temporary sensitivity during or just after treatment is common and generally fades.

Things worth knowing before you start:

  • Whitening lightens natural enamel only, not crowns, fillings, or veneers
  • Existing decay or gum problems should be treated first
  • Short-term tooth or gum sensitivity is normal and usually temporary
  • Results depend on the type and cause of your staining
  • Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or nursing without your physician's clearance

Aftercare and How Long Results Last

The first day or two after whitening, teeth are more receptive to pigment. We ask patients to be deliberate during that window and avoid the obvious culprits: coffee, tea, red wine, cola, tomato-based sauces, soy sauce, curry, berries, and tobacco. Water, milk, chicken, rice, and other light-colored foods are safe bets.

After that, longevity is a function of habits. Someone who drinks two cups of black coffee a day will see the shade drift sooner than someone who doesn't. Drinking staining beverages through a straw, rinsing with water afterward, keeping up with brushing and flossing, and staying current on cleanings all extend the result. Custom trays make maintenance straightforward, since a short touch-up refresh is far easier than starting over.

Cost, Financing, and Booking

We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice and don't bill insurance. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we offer financing through Cherry if you'd rather spread the cost over time. Pricing and options are discussed openly before anything begins.

Your consultation is complimentary. Dr. Darian Anderson will look at your teeth, identify what's actually causing the discoloration, and recommend in-office, take-home, or a combination — and if whitening isn't the right tool for your situation, he'll say so. Patients come to our studio from Del Mar, Encinitas, La Jolla, Solana Beach, and throughout San Diego. We'd be glad to see you.
